William Stuart Addiscott

William Stuart Addiscott attended Alleyn’s until 1909. After leaving school, he spent time in China before returning to England shortly after the outbreak of the First World War. After arriving back in England, he immediately enlisted in the war effort and joined the Royal Fusiliers as part of 9th Battalion in February 1915. William saw service with the battalion in France and Flanders and was involved in heavy fighting at Ypres, Loos, the Somme, Arras, Monchy le Preux and Boullion Wood. He was injured in action during the Battle of Loos towards the end of 1915 but recovered quickly and rejoined his battalion at the front in 1916. William continued to show his dedication to service until being killed in action during the Battle of Cambrai on 30th November 1917. He is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial.
