Donald Aucutt
Captain, Royal Warwickshire
Donald Aucutt was a student at Alleyn's until 1909 and lived at 179 Denmark Hill. After leaving school, he attended King's College where he trained as a doctor before joining the war effort as part of the Royal Army Medical Corps. Donald served with the RAMC as a Lieutenant and was involved in action on the Western Front where his bravery in battle saw him Mentioned in Despatches. In 1917, he received a promotion to Captain which saw him transferred to the infantry to serve with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. As part of the infantry, Donald was directly involved in the fierce fighting of the Third Battle of Ypres in 1917. It was during this action that Donald was killed in action on October 9th 1917. Unfortunately, he did not live long enough to receive the bronze oak spray awarded to individuals who had been Mentioned in Despatches. He is buried at Tyne Cot cemetery.
