Robert Baker lived at 172 Hamilton Road, West Norwood and attended Alleyn's until 1913. He joined the war effort as part of the King's (Liverpool Regiment) and saw service overseas in France and Flanders. Robert was serving on the Western Front with the King's when the Germans launched their Spring Offensive in April 1918. He was killed in action on 11 April 1918 at Givenchy as the British attempted to halt the German advance. He has no known grave and so is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
