William Edwin Barry
Able Seaman, Royal Naval Reserve
William Edwin Barry joined the war effort as part of the Royal Naval Reserve. He served on HMS 'Queen Mary' and was involved in the largest naval battle of the war against the German Navy's High Seas Fleet. This naval battle, known as the Battle of Jutland, was fought in the North Sea and saw the German Fleet attempt to destroy a substantial portion of the British Navy. William was killed on the first day of battle on 31st May 1916. He is commemorated on the Chatham Naval Memorial.
