Alec Beach

Alec Beach was a student at Alleyn’s until 1909. During this time, he lived at 9 Lancaster Road, West Norwood. He joined the war effort as part of the Honourable Artillery Company and served overseas in France and Flanders. Alec held the rank of Bombardier with the HAC, the artillery equivalent of the infantry rank of Corporal. As part of the artillery, Alec played a crucial role in supporting the British infantry in battle and was part of a number of major British operations, including the Third Battle of Ypres. It was during this action that he was killed on October 4^th 1917 as the British attempted to advance towards the village of Passchendaele. He is buried at the New Irish Farm Cemetery near Ypres.
