Frederick P. Beagley

2nd Lieutenant, The Buffs (East Kent Regiment)

Frederick Beagley lived at 20 Thurlstone Road, West Norwood and joined the war effort as part of the Buffs, East Kent Regiment. He served in France as a 2nd Lieutenant and was involved in the major Allied operations on the Western Front in 1918 after the failure of the German Spring Offensive. Frederick was killed in action on August 26th 1918 as the Buffs advanced towards Montauban which had been held by German forces since March. During his time overseas, his actions in battle saw him granted the Military Cross for exemplary gallantry against the enemy. Unfortunately, Frederick did not live long enough to receive the Military Cross granted to him. He is buried at Dernacourt cemetery in France.
