Sidney Francis Bennett

Rifleman, London Regiment (Queen’s Westminster Rifles)

Sidney Francis Bennett lived at Avenue Park Road, West Norwood and probably later at 42 Rosendale Road, Dulwich, and he attended Alleyn’s from 1906 to 1912. He joined the war effort as part of the British Infantry and served with the London Regiment (Queen’s Westminster Rifles). During his time overseas, he served in France. As part of the London Regiment, Sidney was involved in the major British operations on the Somme in the summer of 1916. He was killed in action on July 1st, the first day of the Battle of the Somme. He is buried at Hebuterne Military Cemetery.
