Henry Augustus Brubach

Company Sergeant Major, London Regiment (Prince of Wales Own Civil Service Rifles)

Henry Augustus Brubach was a student at Alleyn's until 1902. After the outbreak of war in August 1914, he joined the British Expeditionary Force as part of the London Regiment (Prince of Wales Own Civil Service Rifles). Henry served with the Regiment in France as a Company Sergeant Major and took part in the Battle of the Somme, a major British offensive which was launched on July 1st 1916. In September 1916, the Battle of the Somme was still ongoing and the London Regiment were ordered to attack at High Wood. During this fierce fighting, which cost the BEF a significant amount of casualties, Henry was killed in action on September 15th 1916. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
