Harold Butler
2nd Lieutenant, Royal Flying Corps
Harold Butler was a former student at Alleyn's and lived in East Dulwich. During his time at the school, he showed himself to be a talented shooter and was Captain of the Shooting 8. After leaving Alleyn's, he joined the Civil Service until deciding to enlist in the Royal Flying Corps shortly after the outbreak of war. Harold was known as a conscientious, fearless and ready airman. He served overseas on the Eastern Front and was involved in action in Italy. In 1918, he was killed when engaged in a bombing raid over Austrian lines on February 22nd. He is buried at Tezze British Cemetery in Italy.
