George Montague Coker
Private, Royal Fusiliers
George Montague Coker attended Alleyn's until 1907. After the outbreak of war, he joined the British Expeditionary Force as part of the Royal Fusiliers and served on the Western Front. George saw service in France in 1918 during the British operations that eventually led to Allied victory in the war.
On 18th September 1918, he was involved in the Battle of Epehy which saw the British launch an attack on the German outpost positions before the Hindenburg Line. George was killed during the battle on September 19th, shortly after the British had achieved their objectives. He was awarded the 14-15 Star, the British War Medal and the Victory Medal and is buried at Epehy Wood Farm Cemetery in France.
