Cecil Thomas Coyne

Captain, West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wale's Own)

Cecil Thomas Coyne was a student at Alleyn's until 1903. After leaving school, he moved from London to Warwick where he lived at the White House, Hatton Hill. When war broke out in August 1914, Cecil decided to enlist in the British Expeditionary Force and was a granted a commison. After receiving training, he joined the West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wale's Own) as a Captain and embarked overseas for service on the Western Front. During this time, Cecil saw service in France and Flanders and was wounded twice in action. He recovered from his injuries in time to rejoin his regiment for the minor operations that were taking place at Ypres in August 1917. These operations intended to build off the first wave of attacks that been launched in this in area in July but they proved to be just as costly and inconclusive for the Allies. It was during this action that Cecil was killed in battle on August 27th 1917. He is buried at Cement House Cemetery in Belgium
