Wilfred Norman Cross
Flight Sub-Lieutenant, Royal Naval Air Service
Wilfred Norman Cross was a student at Alleyn's until 1915 and lived at St. Leonards-on-sea before joining the war effort. He had a passion for flying and after being attested, he joined the Royal Naval Air Service as a Sub-Lieutenant. The RNAS was the air branch of the Navy and existed separately from the Royal Flying Corps in the First World War. Unfortunately, Wilfred's time with the service was short as he was involved in a tragic accident near Ramsgate while flying his own aeroplane on March 6th 1918. He is buried at Minster Cemetery in Thanet.
