Thomas B. Davies

Thomas B. Davies

Sergeant, Royal Field Artillery

Thomas B. Davies joined the war effort early on as part of the Royal Field Artillery. During his time with the RFA, he served as a Sergeant and saw action on the Eastern Front as part of the Mediterranean Expeditionary Force, taking part in the Gallipoli campaign in 1915. This campaign saw the MEF tasked with securing the Dardanelles in order to provide a supply route to Russia and knock Turkey out of the war. However, it would later become known for its appalling conditions and high number of casualties. By the winter of 1915, it was clear that the Gallipoli campaign was a failure and it was decided that the peninsula was to be evacuated with troops being diverted to the Western Front. Unfortunately, Thomas was killed in Alexandria before this evacuation was carried out. He is buried at the Alexandria (Chatby) Military and War Memorial Cemetery.
