Frank Burnell Dix

Corporal, Royal Field Artillery

Frank Burnell Dix was a student at Alleyn’s until 1903 and lived with his father, William Dix, at 250 Tarney Road, Dulwich during this time. He enlisted in the war effort at the age of 26 and joined the Royal Field Artillery after being found fit for service in September 1914. During his time with the RFA, Frank served overseas on the Western Front with 158 Brigade where he continually proved his skill and coolness under fire. These qualities saw him promoted twice in the same year, first to Bombardier in February 1917 and later to Corporal in October 1917. Frank continued to serve with the RFA in France until the conflict came to a close in November 1918.
