Herbert Harman Dunn

Lieutenant, the King’s (Liverpool Regiment)

Herbert Harman Dunn was a student at Alleyn’s until 1899 and lived at Newman Road, Bromley before moving to Staines shortly before the outbreak of war. He joined the war effort after being granted a commission in the King’s (Liverpool Regiment) and received the rank of 2nd Lieutenant after completing his training in 1916. Shortly after being gazetted, Herbert was sent for service overseas on the Western Front where he saw action in France in 1916. During his time in France, he took part in a number of British operations and received a promotion to Lieutenant after proving his capability as a leader in battle. On September 26^th 1916, he was serving near Guillemont when he was killed in action as the British prepared to close the Somme offensive with a final series of attacks. He is buried at Serre Road Cemetery, France.
