Herbert Frederick Eames

When war broke out in August 1914, Herbert Frederick Eames lived at 17 Bonvey Road, Honour Oak with his wife, Ethel, his seven year old son, Henry, and his four year old daughter, Joan. After leaving Alleyn’s in 1891, he had found employment as an insurance clerk in Holborn. He was 40 years old when he decided to enlist in the British Expeditionary Force. Despite having a few health issues, including a flat foot which caused some him some pain, he was accepted for service and posted to the Royal Engineers in November 1915. Herbert served with the Royal Engineers for the duration of the war and was discharged in February 1919 after the end of the conflict.
