William Greenfield

Private, 48^th Canadian Highlanders

William Greenfield was living in Canada when the First World War broke out in August 1914 and he quickly decided to join the war effort as part of the newly established Canadian Expeditionary Force. After being found fit for service, he joined the 48^th Canadian Highlanders and served as a Private with the regiment overseas on the Western Front. William served in France and Flanders until April 1916 when he was wounded in action and sent back to England to recover from his injuries. Unfortunately, he later died of his wounds on April 22^nd 1916. He is buried at Ladywell Cemetery in Lewisham.
