Harry Rednall Haycock
Gunner, Royal Garrison Artillery
Harry Rednall Haycock lived at 15 Calbourne Road, Balham and attended Alleyn’s until 1897. He joined the war effort as part of the Royal Garrison Artillery and saw service on the Eastern Front as a Gunner. In 1919, Harry was serving in Salonika where the British forces had been engaged since 1915 at the request of the Greek Prime Minister. The campaign was intended to help fight against Bulgarian aggression and eventually end the war in the Balkans. However, the British operations launched in the area were largely unsuccessful. It was during these operations that Harry died on January 20th 1919 while on active service. He is buried at Mikra Cemetery, Kalamaria.
