Thomas Arthur Heath

Thomas Arthur Heath was a student at Alleyn’s until 1900. After leaving school, he worked as a bank clerk and decided to volunteer with the British Territorial Force in 1912. Thomas joined the TF as part of the London Army Troops (Royal Engineers) and served as signaller in England until the outbreak of war. He signed up for overseas service in December 1914 and served on the Western Front in France and Flanders. In August 1916, he fell ill as a result of a sinus infection and an acute inflammation of his middle ear. Thomas spent 10 days recovering in hospital before quickly returning to the front to continue his service with his regiment. He served on the Western Front until being discharged at the end of the war.
