Alfred William Hubbard

2^nd Lieutenant, Royal Welsh Fusiliers

Alfred William Hubbard lived at 78 Arodene Road, Brixton Hill and joined the war effort as part of the Royal Welsh Fusiliers after being granted a commission. After receiving the necessary training, he was awarded the rank of 2^nd Lieutenant and was sent for service overseas on the Eastern Front. In 1917, he was serving as a part of the British Mesopotamian Campaign and took part in a series of offensives that pushed back the Ottoman forces and gained ground at Kut. Unfortunately, it was during this advance that Alfred was killed in action on January 25^th 1917. He is commemorated on the Basra Memorial.
