Leonard William Kingswell

Leonard William Kingswell

Captain, London Regiment (London Scottish)

Leonard William Kingswell was a student at Alleyn’s until 1914 and joined the war as part of the London Regiment (London Scottish) shortly after leaving school. In the early days of the war, he saw service on the Western Front as a 2nd Lieutenant and continually proved himself as strong and reliable leader in action. These qualities saw him promoted from 2nd Lieutenant to Captain and he was transferred to the Hampshire Regiment shortly afterwards. During his time with the Hampshire, he won a distinction as a bombing officer and continued to display the same qualities of practical intelligence and resource which had distinguished him at school. In 1918, he was serving near Mericourt during the German Spring Offensive when he was killed in action on March 26th 1918. He is commemorated on the Arras Memorial.
