James Black Kirkhope
Private, Highland Light Infantry
James Black Kirkhope was from Glasgow and studied at Alleyn’s until 1907. He joined the war effort shortly after the outbreak of war as part of the Highland Light Infantry and served on the Western Front as a Private with the regiment. In 1916, he was involved in the Battle of the Somme and took part in the first day of the operation on July 1st 1916. Unfortunately, James was killed in action during this battle and he is buried at Lonsdale Cemetery.
