Arthur Cecil Langley
Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery
Arthur Cecil Langley lived at 37 Elmers End Road, Anerley and was a student at Alleyn’s until 1911. He joined the war effort as part of the Royal Field Artillery and served with the London Howitzer Brigade as a Lieutenant after receiving his officer training. Arthur served with the LHB on the Western Front and took part in a number of British operations, including the Third Battle of Ypres in September 1917. At this point of the operation, the Allies were launching an offensive at Menin Road Ridge which they hoped would push the German forces back as they advanced towards Passchendaele. Unfortunately, it was during this operation that Arthur was killed in action on September 23rd 1917. He is buried at Klein-Vierstraat British Cemetery in Ypres.
