Henry Steedman Lewis
Captain, Royal Sussex Regiment
Henry Steedman Lewis joined the war effort as part of the Royal Sussex Regiment and served overseas as a Lieutenant after being granted a temporary position. In December 1916, he earned the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry after leading his men back to safety under extremely heavy fire. Henry's bravery in action was noted again in March 1918 when his actions in the field saw him awarded a Bar to his Military Cross. By the end of the war, Henry had been promoted and was serving with the rank of Captain.
