Gordon D McIntyre

Gordon D McIntyre was a student at Alleyn’s until 1913 and lived with his father, Duncan McIntyre, at 19 Elmwood Road, Herne Hill during this time. After leaving school, Gordon decided to sign up to the British Territorial Force and joined the London Regiment (London Scottish) in March 1914, at the age of 17. During his Medical Inspection Report for the TA, he was noted as having ‘good teeth’ in the ‘Physical Description’ box, an area of the form often left blank by medical examiners. Gordon served with the TA over the next few months, gaining valuable military training and experience that would be put to good use when war broke out in August 1914. After Britain’s declaration of war, Gordon decided to re-enlist in the British Army as part of the Regular Force and signed up for overseas service immediately. After being transferred to a regular battalion, Gordon was sent for service on the Western Front where he saw action in France as a Private from 31^st December 1914 until the end of the war.
