Cyril William Miller
Lance Corporal, Manchester Regiment
Cyril William Miller lived at 100 Thornlaw Road, West Norwood and was a student at Alleyn’s until 1907. He joined the British Expeditionary Force shortly after the outbreak of war as part of the Manchester Regiment and was sent for service overseas on the Eastern Front. During his time overseas, Cyril served as a Private and took part in the Gallipoli Campaign against the Ottoman Empire. In July 1915, he was serving in the Helles area when he received a promotion to Lance Corporal. Unfortunately, he was killed in action on the very day of his promotion on July 31st 1915. He is commemorated on the Helles Memorial in Turkey.
He was a brother to Frederick G Miller, and to Albert E Miller who also both fought in World War One. All three brothers attended Alleyn's.
