John Lionel Morris
Driver, Honourable Artillery Company
John Lionel Morris lived at 91 Overhill Road and was a student at Alleyn’s until 1913. After leaving school, he attended Dulwich College until the outbreak of the First World War encouraged him to enlist in the British Army. After being attested, John joined the Honourable Artillery Company as a Driver and was sent for service overseas on the Eastern Front. During his time overseas, John took part in a number of British operations in Egypt and Palestine against the forces of the Ottoman Empire. In 1917, he was serving in Egypt when he was killed in action on August 10th. He is commemorated on the Alexandria War Memorial, Egypt.
