Donald Bernard Morrish
2nd Lieutenant, King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry
Donald Bernard Morrish was a student at Alleyn’s and lived at 16 Woodcote Valley Road, Purley. During his time at school, he was highly regarded by his tutors and fellow pupils and was well known for being the first Captain of Tulley’s House. Donald joined the war effort as part of the King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry and received the rank of 2nd Lieutenant after completing his Officer Training. In 1916, he was serving with the King’s on the Western Front during the Battle of the Somme when he was killed in action on August 18th 1916. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
