George Nicol

Lieutenant, Royal Engineers (Postal Section)

George Nicol was a student at Alleyn's until 1902 and joined the war effort as part of the Royal Engineers (Postal Section). During his time with the RE, he served as a Corporal before being granted a commission in 1916. It was during this time that his dedication to duty and his skill as a soldier resulted in him being Mentioned in Despatches.

In the February 1915 edition of the Edward Alleyn Magazine, George wrote home to explain the role and purpose of the RE Postal Section in the war. This short letter can be read by clicking here.
