John F. Parker

Engine Room Artificer (4^th Class), Royal Navy

John F. Parker lived at 3 Carnac Street, West Norwood and was a student at Alleyn’s from 1905-08. He joined the war effort as part of the Royal Navy and served as an Engine Room Artificer 4^th Class on HMS ‘Bulwark’. In 1914, HMS ‘Bulwark’ was attached to the British Channel Fleet and was responsible for conducting patrols in the English Channel. On November 26^th she was anchored at Sheerness when she was destroyed by a large internal explosion. A total of 736 men were killed onboard, including John. He is commemorated on Portsmouth Naval Memorial.
