Thomas Percy Peed

Thomas Percy Peed

2nd Lieutenant, South Staffordshire Regiment

Thomas Percy Peed was born in 1888 and  was one of three brothers, who all attended Alleyn's. He was the son of a nurseryman and seed merchant whose business was at 124 Norwood Road, and for which the family held a Royal Warrant. Thomas left school in 1903. By 1911 the family business had moved to Mitcham Lane in Streatham and Thomas was working in the office.  He joined the war effort after being granted a commission. Following the completion of his officer training, he was attached to the South Staffordshire Regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant. During his time with the regiment, he saw action on the Western Front and was serving in France during the Battle of the Somme in 1916. Unfortunately, Thomas was killed in action on July 10th 1916. He is buried at Heilly Cemetery, Mericourt.
