Sergeant, Seaforth Highlanders

Arthur H. Pepper was a student at Alleyn’s until 1910 and lived at 14 Ulric St, Camberwell. He joined the war effort as part of the Seaforth Highlanders and served overseas on the Western Front as a Sergeant. He fought in the battles of Festubert and Vimy Ridge. In 1917, he took part in the second phase of the Third Battle of Ypres as the British pushed towards Passchendaele. It was during this time that he was killed in action on September 2nd 1917. He served for nearly two and half years overseas and is buried at Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery.
