Allan Heriot Pollock

Captain, King's Own Royal Lancasters

Allan Heriot Pollock joined the war effort originally as part of Queen's Westministers before later being granted a commission with the King's Own Lancasters. After receiving the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, he joined his new regiment for service overseas on the Western Front. In 1916, Allan was serving as a temporary Lieutenant when three senior officers were wounded in an attack. With a cool cheerfulness that did much to encourage the men to carry on, Allan led the remainder of his company in the field. This conspicuous gallantry in the face of the enemy later saw Allan awarded the Military Cross. By March 1918, Allan's devotion to duty had seen him Mentioned in Despatches and promoted to the rank of Captain and was
