Alfred Trevanion Powell
2nd Lieutenant, London Regiment (London Scottish)
Alfred Trevanion Powell lived at 28 Marberly Road, Upper Norwood and was a student at Alleyn’s until 1905. After the outbreak of the First World War, he was granted a commission and joined the London Regiment (London Scottish) following the completion of his officer training. During his time with the London Regiment, Alfred served overseas on the Western Front as a 2nd Lieutenant and saw action in France. In the summer of 1916, he took part in a number of operations as part of Battle of the Somme which had been launched on July 1st. It was during this time that Alfred was killed in action on July 22nd 1916. He is buried at Meroeuli British Cemetery.
