Alfred Trevanion Powell

2^nd Lieutenant, London Regiment (London Scottish)

Alfred Trevanion Powell lived at 28 Marberly Road, Upper Norwood and was a student at Alleyn’s until 1905. After the outbreak of the First World War, he was granted a commission and joined the London Regiment (London Scottish) following the completion of his officer training. During his time with the London Regiment, Alfred served overseas on the Western Front as a 2^nd Lieutenant and saw action in France. In the summer of 1916, he took part in a number of operations as part of Battle of the Somme which had been launched on July 1^st. It was during this time that Alfred was killed in action on July 22^nd 1916. He is buried at Meroeuli British Cemetery.
