Leslie Montague Sidney Prior
2nd Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery
Leslie Montague Sidney Piror lived at 22 Cosbycote Avenue, Herne Hill and was a student at Alleyn’s until 1908. He joined the war effort early on as part of the Royal Field Artillery and saw service overseas on the Western Front as a Gunner. During his time overseas, Leslie proved that he was a natural leader at the front and was recommended for a commission in 1915. After completing his officer training, he re-joined his regiment as a 2nd Lieutenant and was attached to 156th Brigade. In July 1916, he was serving in France during the Battle of the Somme when he was killed in action on July 26th. He is buried at the Flatiron Copse Cemetery.
