Leslie Montague Sidney Prior

2^nd Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery

Leslie Montague Sidney Piror lived at 22 Cosbycote Avenue, Herne Hill and was a student at Alleyn’s until 1908. He joined the war effort early on as part of the Royal Field Artillery and saw service overseas on the Western Front as a Gunner. During his time overseas, Leslie proved that he was a natural leader at the front and was recommended for a commission in 1915. After completing his officer training, he re-joined his regiment as a 2^nd Lieutenant and was attached to 156^th Brigade. In July 1916, he was serving in France during the Battle of the Somme when he was killed in action on July 26^th. He is buried at the Flatiron Copse Cemetery.
