Sidney Procter

Rifleman, London Regiment (Prince of Wales’ Own Civil Service Rifles)

Sidney Procter lived at 23 Hillsboro Road, East Dulwich and attended Alleyn’s with his brother, William, until 1909. After the outbreak of the First World War, both brothers decided to enlist in the war effort and they joined the London Regiment after being found fit for service. During his time with the London Regiment, Sidney served as a Rifleman with the Prince of Wales’ Own Civil Service Rifles and saw service overseas on the Western Front. In 1917, he took part in the Battle of Cambrai which was intended to threaten the German front line to the North and disrupt an important supply route for the German Army. It was during this battle that Sidney was killed in action on November 29^th 1917. He is buried at Rocquigny-Equancourt Road British Cemetery. His brother survived the war and received his remaining possessions and money after his passing.
