Perceval Pyne

Acting Corporal, London Regiment (Queen’s Westminster Rifles)

Perceval Pyne was a student at Alleyn’s until 1915 and lived at 37 Eardley Road, Streatham with his parents, four brothers and two sisters during this time. After leaving school, he found work as a bank clerk before joining the war effort in March 1917, at the age of 17. After being found fit for service, Perceval was attached to the London Regiment (Queen’s Westminster Rifles) and was sent for service overseas in December 1917. In April 1918, he was serving in France during the German Spring Offensive when he went Missing in Action. He was later reported as a Prisoner of War in Germany, where he remainder until the conflict came to a close. In 1919, Perceval was able to re-join his regiment and he received a promotion to Acting Lance Corporal in March 1919, followed by another promotion to Acting Corporal in August. Perceval continued to serve with this rank until being disembodied in 1920. For his wartime service, he received the British War and Victory Medal.
