Leonard William Roddis
Private, Royal Fusiliers
Leonard William Roddis lived at 26 Terrapin Road, Tooting Bec Common and was a student at Alleyn’s until 1908. He joined the war effort in August 1914 as part of the Royal Fusiliers and served overseas on the Western Front as a Private. In February 1916, he was serving in France when he was killed in action near Berles au Bois on February 21st 1916. He is buried at Douchy-les-Ayette.
The photographs to the right depict the obverse and reverse images of the WW1 medal trio: 1914-15 Star, Silver 1914-1918 British War Medal and Gilt 1914-1919 British Inter Allied Victory Medal.
In the third photograph are the Bronze Memorial Plaque maker marked to the reverse (W) for The Woolwich Arsenal, the large brass badge (flaming grenade) is the regimental cap badge of The Royal Fusiliers City of London Regiment, and the small RF is an epaulette badge; both are early war types.
