Frederick B. Rogers

Lance Corporal, London Regiment (Post Office Rifles)

Frederick B. Rogers lived at 3 Telford Avenue, Streatham Hill and was a student at Alleyn’s until 1913. After the outbreak of war, he decided to enlist in the British Expeditionary Force and joined the London Regiment (Post Office Rifles) after being found fit for service. During his time with the Rifles, Frederick served overseas on the Western Front as a Lance Corporal and saw action in France. In December 1917, he took part in the Battle of Cambrai which hoped to threaten the German line to north by disrupting an important supply line for the Hindenburg Line. Frederick was serving as part of the Regiment’s Machine Gun Section during this battle when he was killed in action on December 7^th. He is commemorated on the Cambrai Memorial.
