George G. Sasse

2nd Lieutenant, Royal West Surrey Regiment

George G. Sasse lived at 36 Fawnbrake Avenue, Herne Hill and was a student at Alleyn's until 1910. He originally joined the war effort as part of the London Regiment (London Scottish) but was later granted a commission with the Royal West Surrey Regiment. After completing his officer training, George received the rank of 2nd Lieutenant and was sent for service overseas with his new regiment. In 1918, he was awarded the Military Cross for conspicuous gallantry during active operations against the enemy.
