F. J. Semmons
Lieutenant, Royal Navy (Anti-Aircraft Division)/Anti-Aircraft Defence (Home Forces)
F. J. Semmons was a student at Alleyn's until 1900 and joined the war effort as part of the Royal Navy Anti-Aircraft Division, a defence force that existed to prevent the successful attack of any enemy aircraft at home in Britain. The effectiveness of these anti-aircraft divisions helped to prevent high casualties from occurring at home as well as overseas.
Semmons served in this role throughout the war and was made an MBE in 1918 for his devotion to duty and service to the Empire.
