Denis Charles Sewell

Private, Honourable Artillery Company

Denis Charles Sewell was a student at Alleyn’s until 1913 and lived at 11 Lancaster Road, West Norwood with his parents, Charles and Ann. After leaving school, Denis worked as a bank clerk until making the decision to join the war effort in 1917. After being found fit for service, Denis joined the Honourable Artillery Company as a Private and was sent for service overseas on the Western Front. During his time overseas, Denis proved himself as a keen and reliable soldier which resulted in him being granted a commission in the Royal Air Force in October 1918. He was transferred from the Western Front to the Cadet Wing of the Royal Flying Corps and was still receiving his training when the conflict came to a close in November 1918.
