Stanley Arthur Sharpe

Rifleman, London Regiment (London Scottish)

Stanley Arthur Sharpe was a student at Alleyn’s until 1910 and lived at 205 Friern Road, East Dulwich with his parents, Sydney and Florence. He joined the war effort as part of the London Regiment (London Scottish) and saw service overseas on the Western Front as a Rifleman. During his time overseas, Stanley was involved in a number of operations and fell ill on more than occasion due to the hardships of trench life. Fortunately, he always made a swift recovery and re-joined his regiment at the front after a short spell of rest in hospital. In 1918, he was serving in France and Flanders with the London Scottish and was part of the forces holding the British frontline positions during the German Spring Offensive. It was during this time that Stanley was injured after being hit by a gas shell. He was hospitalised for his injuries and later returned home to England to recover.

After the end of the conflict, he received the British War and Victory Medal for his wartime service.
