John Edward Skelton

John Edward Skelton was a student at Alleyn’s until 1910 and joined the war effort at the age of 21 in December 1915. Before joining the Army, he was an Iron Mongers Apprentice and lived at 33 Lambert Road, Brixton Hill with his parents, Donald and Eliza, and his brother and sister, William and Clara. After being attested, John joined the Royal Field Artillery as a Driver and was sent overseas for service on the Western Front. He served in France with the RFA from April 1917 to May 1918. For his wartime service he received the British War and Victory Medal after the end of the conflict.
