George Harold Slater
Private, West Kent Yeomanry/the Buffs
George Harold Slater was a student at Alleyn’s until 1909 and lived at 191 Friern Road during this time. He joined the war effort as part of the West Kent Yeomanry but was later transferred to the Buffs Regiment in March 1916. During his time with the Buffs, George saw service overseas on the Eastern and Western Front as a Private and took part in a number of British operations, including the Hundred Days Offensive. After the conflict came to an end in November 1918, George received the British War and Victory Medal for his wartime service.
