Thomas Colegrave Stafford

Captain, Northumberland Fusiliers

Thomas Colegrave Stafford was born in June 1873 and attended Alleyn's along with his older brother, Frank Ernest Stafford from April 1883 until December 1888.  He was a keen cricketer during his time at school, and later played for Sutton in Surrey. His father was Francis Thomas Stafford, a tea merchant, and they lived in Crystal Palace Rd in East Dulwich.

According to his obituary, in the July 1916 edition of the Edward Alleyn Magazine, Thomas joined the Army shortly after the outbreak of war, obtaining a commission as a 2^nd Lieutenant in the Northumberland Fusiliers. He married shortly afterwards and was later transferred to the Yorkshire Regiment, receiving another promotion to Captain. Thomas was moved to India with his regiment shortly after receiving his promotion and his wife accompanied him abroad. Unfortunately, just after moving to India, Thomas was killed in a riding accident near Ahmednagar on April 2^nd 1915.
