Leonard J. Tyler

Lance Corporal, London Regiment (Queen's Westminster Rifles)

Leonard J. Tyler was a student at Alleyn's until 1912 and joined the war effort as part of the London Regiment (Queen's Westminster Rifles). He served overseas on the Western Front as a Lance Corporal and was attached to the Regiment's bombing section. In 1916, he was serving in France during the Battle of the Somme and was involved in the operation as part of the forces that attacked the Gommecourt Salient. Unfortunately, it was during this action that Leonard was killed in battle on July 1st 1916. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme.
