Stanley James Watts

Stanley James Watts was a student at Alleyn’s until 1900 and joined the war effort as part of the London Regiment (London Scottish). He served overseas on the Western Front and saw action in France during the major British operation on the Somme in 1916. Stanley was a part of the attacking forces on the first day of this operation and was involved in the advance at Loos. Unfortunately, it was during this time that he was killed in battle on July 1st 1916. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
