Sidney C. Whitlock

Private, London Regiment (London Scottish)

Sidney C. Whitlock was a student at Alleyn’s until 1911 and lived at Wood Vale, Forest Hill. He joined the war effort a part of the London Regiment (London Scottish) and served overseas on the Western Front as a Private. In 1916, he was serving in France during the Battle of the Somme and was a part of the attacking forces on the first day of the battle. It was during this operation that was killed in action shortly after going over the top on July 1^st. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
