Sidney C. Whitlock
Private, London Regiment (London Scottish)
Sidney C. Whitlock was a student at Alleyn’s until 1911 and lived at Wood Vale, Forest Hill. He joined the war effort a part of the London Regiment (London Scottish) and served overseas on the Western Front as a Private. In 1916, he was serving in France during the Battle of the Somme and was a part of the attacking forces on the first day of the battle. It was during this operation that was killed in action shortly after going over the top on July 1st. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
