Jack J. Willats

Rifleman, London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade)

Jack J. Willats was a student at Alleyn’s until 1904 and lived at 3 Dovedale Road, Honor Oak. He joined the war effort as part of the London Regiment (London Rifle Brigade) and served overseas on the Western Front as a Rifleman. During his time overseas, Jack saw action in France and Flanders and took part in the Battle of the Somme in October 1916. It was during this time that he was killed in action on October 8^th 1916 as the London Rifle Brigade advanced at Les Boeufs. He is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial.
